Our Legacy

From Bremen to the World

At the heart of LODEC Group’s modern operations lies a history spanning nearly two centuries—a testament to our enduring commitment to global trade and partnership. Our story begins in 1832 in the historic port city of Bremen, Germany, where Louis Delius was first established, and LODEC’s current headquarters are. Initially exporting linen to Latin America, the company quickly expanded its cargo on return voyages, bringing tobacco back to the thriving European markets.

Over time, Louis Delius evolved into one of Bremen’s most significant trading houses, expanding its offerings to include cotton and coffee. By 1910, in response to surging global demand, a new division focused on exporting tools, machinery, and hardware from German producers emerged. This strategic expansion proved pivotal; after 1950, it became the principal business of the firm, reflecting the world’s increasing appetite for German industrial quality and expertise.

Global Expansion and Evolution

Building on its steadfast foundations, the company looked beyond Europe and Latin America, seeking new opportunities worldwide. In 1985, Metal and Tool Trade was founded in Johannesburg, thereby expanding our presence in South Africa. Soon after, in 1989, NILO Asia Pte Ltd was established in Singapore, further cementing our reputation as a group with a truly global outlook. In 1995, LODEC Metall-Handel was formed in Bremen, marking a new chapter that blended tradition with modern innovation. Our growth strategy led us to China in 2007, where NILO Shanghai established operations, reflecting the growing importance of Asia in international trade.

A Unified Future

The year 2022 was a milestone for LODEC. NILO Asia & Shanghai merged fully into the Louis Delius Group. It was rebranded as LODEC Asia and LODEC Shanghai—a unification that brought even greater strength, synergy, and reach to our global network. Through this merger, our name and vision have become more cohesive than ever before, solidifying our identity as a unified German company with a strong and vibrant Asian presence.

Embracing Tradition While Driving Innovation

Throughout our evolution, we have never lost sight of what initially set us apart: our roots in Bremen, a city with a storied history of maritime trade, and our longstanding dedication to quality, reliability, and innovation. Today, LODEC Group embodies German tradition, seamlessly connected with Asia’s dynamic markets. Our heritage informs everything we do— from selecting the perfect materials to nurturing enduring partnerships worldwide.
